Dr Clive Novis qualified as an optometrist in 1979, as a medical doctor in 1988, and as an ophthalmologist in 1994. He now practices general ophthalmology with main interests in cataract surgery.

A cataract is an opacification or clouding of the lens inside the eye. Note that it is not a growth on the outside of the eye, therefore you can not see it when looking in a mirror. The cause is not usually known but it is associated with people of older age (over age 45). Sometimes younger people can get cataracts especially if they suffer from diabetes.
